This Was Meant for Firewood… Look What I Made

In this video, I turn a massive black locust live edge burl log—originally destined for firewood—into a stunning, one-of-a-kind vase full of natural character.
Using my woodturning lathe, I carefully shape the piece while preserving its unique grain, burl patterns, and raw edge details. Due to the natural cracks in the wood, I chose not to fully hollow the vase. Instead, I drilled a large opening to fit a glass insert, making it both functional and highly decorative.
This project is a perfect example of turning overlooked material into something truly special.
